In order to arrive in Taichung, there are three routes to get to your destination so let’s find out which travel situation suits you best.

Cheapest but takes a long time to arrive – bus

From Taoyuan airport to Taichung, bus is visible around an hour and most likely one bus would be running every hour. The bus station is located downstairs when you arrive at the arrival hall. If time isn’t your primary concern at all it will take you 2 hours to drive from Taoyuan to Taichung by bus. This is the only cheapest transportation you could use to go to Taichung. However, if your flight is scheduled to arrive around midnight then you can hire a car or a taxi since the last bus leaves at 23:50.

Be mindful of some taxi drivers, some of them will make an excuse especially when you are bringing big luggage, they will charge you for that for about TWD150. Don’t believe them. You just need to wait and hail for a taxi on the road. You can absolutely find a taxi by meter.

Faster than bus, but need to transfer serval times-High speed rail

The high speed rail is the fastest public transportation in Taiwan. But to some extent, it always has a bad point except for Taipei station. All stations are far from the town and is separated from the airport so you will need to go to the station through the high speed rail in order to arrive in the city. Driving from the station to the city takes 20 minutes. By this, MRT is the best way to use when you are in rush and by the time you arrive in Taichung you can take a taxi or a shuttle to go downtown. If you don’t have a lot of luggage, you can choose this way. Additionally, you can try Taiwan’s fastest train which spends 80-90 minutes in traveling.

Pick up service for bigger group.

If your group is around four to eight people, the best choice will be to appoint pick up service. Pick service demands a charge for the car only, not individually. So if you are in a big pax, this is fast and convenient for you. Not only they will drive you but also they offer door to door services too upon arriving at Taichung hotel. You just have to put your luggage in the room and after that exploring delicious food could be done immediately.
